The roleUtilink is launching a new digital product and we need one developer to build it and run with it.You will make the technical decisions, write the code, ship it, and look after it in production. The new product is a blank canvas: what gets built is largely up to you, and the responsibility for it is yours too.Alongside that, you will work on our existing bespoke CRM system, which runs the day-to-day business. Over time the two are likely to come together, and you may well be the one integrating the new product into it. So this is a mix: mostly greenfield build, with some real-world work on an established system that people rely on every day.Roles like this usually mean joining an early-stage startup and taking a gamble on the funding lasting. This one is different. Utilink is an established, profitable energy broker based in the North East, and this venture is backed by us and by the wider group of businesses we are connected to. There is no funding round to run out and no investor pulling the plug in eighteen months. You get the interesting work of a new product with the job security of an established employer behind you.How we workWe use AI development tools and we expect you to as well. They are part of how we build, not something to hide or apologise for. The flip side is simple: whatever the tool wrote, you shipped it. You review it, you understand it, and you stand behind its quality and security. If that is already how you work, good.You will not be on your own. The Utilink team is around you day to day, and through the wider group you get full access to technical knowledge and experience you would not normally have as a solo developer: established DevOps, infrastructure, and engineers who have solved the problems you are about to hit. The plumbing is already sorted, so you can focus on building the product.What you will be doingBuilding a new web product in PHP/Laravel with MySQL, from the first line of code through to launch and beyondDesigning the database and the architectureMaintaining and improving our bespoke CRM system, and in time integrating the new product with itIntegrating third-party APIs and servicesManaging the codebase in GitShaping the direction of the product as it grows.
