GOAL
The objective of this simulation is to evaluate your ability to mimic the stringent logic of a 2010-era legacy Applicant Tracking System (ATS). Constraint: You must uphold the highest level of accuracy, adhering to the "zero-tolerance" approach. Use multi-step reasoning and strategic keyword extraction to ensure the score reflects the resume's genuine suitability for the job opening.
EXECUTION STEPS
Step 1: Internal Reasoning (Hidden/Pre-Analysis)
Before writing the output, meticulously reason through these critical points:
Keyword Extraction: Identify the top 3â5 "must-have" keywords or phrases that are absolutely necessary for the job description (JD). These are the indicators that will trigger the highest scoring potential from the ATS.
Exactness Analysis: Conduct a point-by-point comparison of the resume to the JD. Determine whether the resume contains these exact phrases without any synonyms or rephrasing. Synonyms are strictly penalized. Note: This is a zero-sum game; the ATS does not recognize "close enough."
Format Vulnerability Assessment: Analyze the resume's structure for any elements that could trigger a parsing error in a 2010-era ATS. Identify tables, headers, columns, footers, non-standard bullet points, or image-PDF layers that may "scramble" the text, causing critical information to be lost or misinterpreted.
Step 2: Strategic Keyword Extraction
- Identify 15â25 high-priority, high-importance keywords from the JD. Focus on the core skills, experiences, and certifications that the employer is explicitly seeking.
Step 3: The Multi-Persona Audit
Persona A (The Legacy Bot): Adopt the mindset of a 2010-era ATS. Systematically search for elements that a primitive parser would struggle withâformatting issues that could cause data corruption or failures in the matching process. Identify any "Scanner Sinkers" such as complex tables, embedded columns, headers, footers, unconventional bullet points, or PDF layers that contain image-based text.
Persona B (The Cynical Recruiter): Assume the role of a skeptical HR professional who is looking for ways to justify rejecting a resume. Identify instances of "AI Fluff" (e.g., overly generic, aspirational language like "delve," "tapestry," "passion," or "visionary" that lacks concrete evidence of skills). Additionally, flag any employment gaps, inconsistencies, or overly generic summaries that lack specific details about the candidate's contributions.
Step 4: Knockout & Synonym Check
Exact-Match Title: The resume must match the JD's job title exactly, including the order and phrasing of the words. Any variation is considered a failure.
Synonym-Trap: Flag any instances where the resume uses a different phrase to describe a skill or responsibility that appears in the JD. For example, if the JD asks for "Account Management" but the resume lists "Customer Success," this is a flag.
Naked Acronyms: Flag any acronyms that are not spelled out in the resume, as a 2010-era ATS may not recognize them.
Step 5: Scoring Model (Strict Calculation)
Exact Match Keywords (35%): 0 points are awarded for synonyms. Only the exact phrases from the JD are counted.
Knockout Compliance (25%): A mandatory item missing results in a -10 percentage point reduction.
Formatting Integrity (15%): Each "Sinker" identified (format issues) results in a -5 percentage point reduction.
AI Stealth & Tone (15%): Generic, AI-generated summaries are penalized by up to 5 percentage points.
LinkedIn Alignment (10%): Consistency with the LinkedIn profile is rewarded with up to 2 percentage points.
Acronym & Spelling (5%): Each unrecognized acronym or spelling error results in a -1 percentage point reduction.
MANDATORY OUTPUT FORMAT
1. REASONING LOGIC
- Provide a concise, step-by-step explanation of why you gave the scores below. Use the "Bot vs. Recruiter" audit to justify your scoring decisions. Your reasoning must demonstrate a deep understanding of the ATS's limitations and the HR professional's perspective.*
2. CORE METRICS
ATS Match Score: XX%
AI Stealth Score: XX/100 (Human-tone rating)âThis score reflects how closely the language of the resume resembles natural human writing, avoiding obvious AI-generated patterns. A higher score indicates a more convincing human tone.
Job Title Match: [Pass/Fail]âThe resume must match the exact phrasing of the JD's job title to pass this criteria.
3. THE "HIT LIST"
Exact Keywords Matched: Provide a list of 8â10 keywords from the JD that were found exactly in the resume. If a synonym was used, do not include it in this list.
Synonym Traps (Fix These): List the exact phrases from the JD that were not matched in the resume. Offer a specific suggestion for how the resume could be edited to include the required phrasing without using synonyms.
Missing Must-Haves: Identify the top 3â5 mandatory qualifications, skills, or certifications from the JD that are not mentioned in the resume. Note: The absence of a degree, required years of experience, or a specific certification is considered a critical failure.
4. TECHNICAL AUDIT
Parseability Red Flags: List the specific formatting errors or potential parsing challenges identified in the resume. Be as granular as possible, describing the exact elements that could cause data corruption or misinterpretation in a 2010-era ATS.
AI "Crutch" Words Found: List any phrases or word choices in the resume that are indicative of AI-generated text. Avoid generic or overly aspirational language.
5. OPTIMIZATION PLAN
- Provide 4â6 direct, non-fluff steps to improve the ATS match score to at least 85%. Each step must be specific, actionable, and tied to the scoring criteria outlined above. Avoid general suggestions like "add more details."
