As a Senior PHP Developer, you&rsquo;ll take ownership of designing, building, and maintaining complex, high-traffic customer-facing web applications. You&rsquo;ll provide technical leadership, shape back-end architecture, and work closely with front-end developers, product teams, and stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing solutions.<br>

You&rsquo;ll play a pivotal role in shaping how people buy travel insurance online, contributing to the ongoing evolution of platforms used by customers with specialist medical needs. Your work will directly influence system design, development standards, and the reliability of our customer journey.<br>

Key Responsibilities</b></h3><br>

Design, develop, and maintain robust PHP-based applications and services.</li>

<li>Take ownership of back-end architecture, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and maintainable.</li>

<li>Build and maintain integrations with databases, third-party services, and internal APIs.</li>

<li>Write clean, efficient, and well-structured code following modern PHP standards and best practices.</li>

<li>Work closely with front-end developers to support seamless integration between front-end and back-end systems.</li>

<li>Optimise application performance, reliability, and security across the platform.</li>

<li>Contribute to technical decision-making, code reviews, and setting development standards.</li>

<li>Participate in sprints, stand-ups, and planning meetings to ensure alignment and timely delivery.</li>

<li>Maintain clear technical documentation to support ongoing development and onboarding.</li></ul><br>

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise</b></h3><br>

<li>

Strong commercial experience with PHP, including modern PHP versions and object-oriented programming.</li>

<li>Solid experience with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.</li>

<li>Experience working with MVC frameworks, preferably Laravel.</li>

<li>Strong understanding of application security, performance optimisation, and error handling.</li>

<li>Experience using Git for version control and collaborative development.</li>

<li>Strong debugging and optimisation skills for both performance and accessibility.</li>

<li>Experience with observability and logging solutions such as Grafana, Datadog or New Relic.</li>

<li>Ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.</li>

<li>Experience writing and maintaining unit and integration tests using tools such as PHPUnit, with a focus on reliable and maintainable test coverage.</li>

<li>Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.</li>

<li> Good communication skills and a collaborative attitude.</li>
