<p>We are seeking a skilled, self-motivated web developer to support our core team on both new projects and ongoing client work.</p><p><b>Job Description:</b></p><p>Our web development contractor will work with a small team, including our lead developer and our designer, assisting them in building a variety of websites and web applications.</p><p>The work will be on an ad hoc basis as new projects arise and as existing clients require additional support. Our aim is to build a long-term relationship with you, as a trusted contractor, who we can call on when we have increased capacity across our client base.</p><p>Sanders Web Works serves a wide variety of clients, with a focus on more technically demanding websites and web applications. Applicants will therefore need to be flexible thinkers who can draw on a wide range of experience.</p><p><b>Benefits:</b></p><p>The successful candidate will benefit from flexible working arrangements and interacting with a friendly, supportive company that emphasises high standards and ethical business practice.</p><p><b>Required Technical Skills:</b></p><ul><li>Languages: PHP, JavaScript, TypeScript, SQL.</li><li>Backend Frameworks: Laravel, WordPress.</li><li>Frontend: VueJS (or transferable skills from similar reactive framework such as React), HTML5, CSS3.</li><li>Database: MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL.</li><li>API Expertise: Building and integrating RESTful/GraphQL APIs.</li><li>E-commerce: e.g. WooCommerce, Shopify, Stripe (integrations/development).</li><li>Deployment: Linux server/VM configuration and provisioning (Nginx/Apache/Caddy), strong command line and sysadmin skills.</li><li>Code Quality: Strong OOP/architectural skills, following coding standards, testing practices, and version control (Git).</li></ul><p><b>Additional Valued Skills &amp; Experience:</b></p><ul><li>Other PHP frameworks and technologies: Symfony, Sylius, SlimPHP, etc.</li><li>Other JS frameworks and technologies: e.g. Nuxt (full-stack/SSR), NodeJS, Hotwired/StimulusJS/Turbo, JQuery, D3.js, OpenMapTiles, etc.</li><li>CSS frameworks and technologies: e.g. TailWindCSS, SASS, CubeCSS, Bootstrap, etc.</li><li>Modern WordPress development: Experience with structured/composer-driven WordPress setups (e.g., Roots, Lumberjack - we use our own similar framework for more complex custom WordPress projects).</li><li>Search Technologies: Experience with the likes of Algolia, ElasticSearch, TypeSense, or MeiliSearch (we use TypeSense).</li><li>Cloud Technologies: Experience with cloud hosting platforms (e.g., Digital Ocean, AWS) and automated deployment practices/CI/CD.</li></ul><p><b>Other Key Attributes:</b></p><ul><li>Able to quickly learn and apply new technologies, frameworks, and libraries as projects evolve.</li><li>Reliable</li><li>Able to keep to agreed deadlines</li><li>Self-motivated with plenty of initiative</li><li>Strong interpersonal skills</li><li>Fluent in written and spoken English</li><li>Thorough and careful approach to work</li></ul><p><b>Location:</b></p><p>We&rsquo;re happy for contractors to work remotely, but ideally, you would be based locally so that face-to-face meetings and interviews are possible when required.
